The worsening drought in the Catalan region imposes a prefectural ban in 48 municipalities. This precautionary measure, at the end of spring surprisingly subject to a scorching heat, causes severe restrictions in some fifty municipalities, mainly located in Roussillon, Salanque and Albères included. This precaution, which affects Perpignan, hits the hardest hitting farmers, who pay the price for overconsumption of pleasure by being forced to reduce their water consumption by 25%, however linked to professional use.
The prefectural measure leads to a ban on watering lawns, vegetable gardens, stadiums, golf courses, roundabouts and green spaces. For individuals, it is forbidden to fill swimming pools, wash their cars and clean the terraces. In addition, any municipality carrying out street cleaning with a water jet, or with water on board a dedicated vehicle, is at fault.
